Members of the National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards are selected in accordance with the Rules of the National Commission and the Constitution and Bylaws of the American Dental Association. The current members are listed below.

Dr. Ben F. Warner

Dr. Ben F. Warner (ADA), Chair

Dr. Ben F. Warner is a professor in the Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health and holder of the Doan-Huynh-Le Endowed Professorship in General Dentistry at UTHealth Houston. He received his DDS at UTHealth Houston, MS at the University of Houston, MD at McGovern Medical School, residencies in Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Medicine at UT Affiliated Hospitals at Houston and fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Warner is a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, and member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. He is a Fellow of the Special Care Dental Association, Academy of Laser Dentistry, International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, Academy of Dentistry International, Pierre Fauchard Academy, and National Academies of Practice. He is President-Elect of the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry, and serves on ADA’s INBDE, DLOSCE, and ADAT Test Construction Teams, the AGD Examination Assessment Committee, and Texas State Board of Dental Examiners Dental Review Panel. His research interests include oral oncology, head and neck skin lesions, innovative behavior modification interventions, and mindfulness practices. His goal is to improve the overall healthcare experience, beginning with compassionate access particularly for individuals with cognitive impairment, physical limitations, or chronic disease.

Dr. Cindi Sherwood

Dr. Cindi Sherwood (ADA), Vice-Chair

Dr. Cindi Sherwood has been a general dentist practicing in Independence, KS since graduating from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1982. She graduated as a Registered Dental Hygienist from Wichita State University in 1975. She has served the ADA in many capacities including as a member of the Council on Dental Practice and is completing her term on ADPAC this fall. Dr. Sherwood has served over 20 years as an ADA delegate or Alternate including as a member of two Reference Committees. She is a fellow of ACD,ICD and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Sherwood is a Past President of the Kansas Dental Association and is currently a member of the Legislative Council. She has volunteered at 25 Mission of Mercy projects. Cindi also served the AGD on the Board of Trustees for 6 years representing Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma.

 
Aste
Dr. Leonard Aste

Dr. Leonard Aste (ADA)

Dr. Leonard R. Aste is a general dentist practicing in Manti, Utah. Dr. Aste received his dental degree from  Creighton University School of Dentistry. Upon graduation he joined the United States Public Health Service where he was assigned to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Dr. Aste has served as President of his local dental society and is an Executive Board Member of the Utah Dental Association. Dr. Aste completed an eight year term on the Utah State Dental Advisory Board serving two years as chairman. Dr. Aste is a board member of the Council of Interstate Testing Agencies and is a Floor Examiner for the Western Regional Examining Boar and holds an adjunct faculty position at the University of Utah School of Dentistry General Practice Residency Program. Dr. Aste is a fellow in the ICD and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He is founder and CEO of the G3 Foundation, an international dental humanitarian organization.

Dr. Michele Beeler (ADA)

Dr. Michele Beeler recently retired from her general practice in a small rural town (Liberty, KY) in Central Kentucky were she practice for 27 years.  Dr. Beeler graduated from the University of Kentucky, College of Dentistry with a Doctorate in Dental Medicine in 1994. Dr. Beeler has been a Kentucky Medicaid provider since 1994 and devoted 70 percent of her practice time to providing services for Medicaid patients. She is a member of the ADA, KDA, and BCDS.

Dr. Donald Clem (AAP)

Dr. Donald Clem competed his periodontal training at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.  Dr. Clem has authored over 30 publication including 3 textbook chapters.  Dr. Clem continues to lecture internationally as well as conducting clinical research.  Dr. Clem has been the recipient of numerous awards including Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Periodontics, The American Academy of Periodontology  Clinical Research Award, The R. Earl Robinson Regeneration Award, The AAP’s Gold Medal Award.  He has also been recognized for Contributions to the Disabled by The Rehabilitation Institute of Southern California.    He is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, The International College of Dentists, The Pierre Fuchard Academy, The Academy of Osseointegration.  Dr. Clem has the unique distinction of serving as President of the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation, the American Academy of Periodontology and served as Chair, American Board of Periodontology.

Dr. Kitrina Cordell
Dr. Kitrina Cordell (AAOMP)

Dr. Kitrina Cordell is a 1999 graduate from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry where she continued her education receiving an MS in oral and maxillofacial pathology in 2002.  She is the Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Sciences and Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry in New Orleans where is responsible for educating hygiene, dental and post-graduate students in both clinical and didactic settings. She is an active participant in the LSU Oral Pathology Biopsy Service and sees patients with clinical oral pathology needs in the Faculty Dental Practice. Prior to joining LSU, she was a member of the faculty at the University of Michigan from 2002-2010 where she also served as director of the Oral Pathology Biopsy Service. Dr. Cordell served as an elected councilor and is a fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, member of the North American Society of Head and Neck Pathology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.

Dr. James Fricton
Dr. James Fricton AAOP

James Fricton, DDS, MS is a Professor Emeritus in the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, and Public Health at the University of Minnesota and a Pain Specialist at the Minnesota Head and Neck Pain Clinic. He graduated from University of Iowa School of Dentistry and completed an Anesthesiology and Pain Management Residency at the UCLA School of Medicine and a Master’s Degree at UCLA School of Dentistry. He has devoted his career to developing the Dental Specialty of Orofacial Pain. He is Board-certified in the American Board of Orofacial Pain and a fellow and past president of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain.

Dr. Joseph E. Gambacorta

Dr. Joseph E. Gambacorta (ADA)

Dr. Joseph E. Gambacorta is a 1993 graduate of the University at Buffalo (UB) School of Dental Medicine, and a 2022 graduate of the UB School of Public Health and Health Professions where he received his Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Community Health and Behavior. He also completed a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from UB in 1989 and a General Practice Residency at Millard Fillmore Hospital in 1994. Dr. Gambacorta became a faculty member of the School of Dental Medicine in 2002. Where he has served in many roles. He was the associate dean for its clinical affairs from 2012-2021, the associate dean for academic and faculty affairs from 2021-2023 and most recently serving as the interim assistant vice president of Office of Interprofessional Education at the University at Buffalo from 2022-2023. Currently, Dr. Gambacorta is Professor and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine in Charleston.

 
Gluskin
Dr. Alan H. Gluskin

Dr. Alan H. Gluskin (AAE)

Dr. Alan H. Gluskin (AAE) is currently Professor, Department of Endodontics, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, University of the Pacific in San Francisco, California. He served as Chairperson of the Endodontic Department for over thirty years and at present is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists. Dr. Gluskin has served on numerous AAE committees and has just completed his tenure on the Executive Board of Directors of the American Association of Endodontists having served as Past President of the AAE. Dr. Gluskin is the 2017 recipient of the University of the Pacific’s Eberhardt Teacher-Scholar Award.

 

Hudis
Dr. Stephen Hudis

Dr. Stephen Hudis (ACP)

Dr. Stephen I. Hudis received a Bachelor of Music from The New England Conservatory of Music in 1975 and his D.D.S. from the New York University College of Dentistry in 1979. He completed his GPR at Bellevue Hospital Center in 1980 and received his certificate in Prosthodontics from NYUCD in 1982. Dr. Hudis is currently Board Certified for the American Board of Prosthodontics and is a Fellow and Past-President of the American College of Prosthodontists. He is Past-President of the Mercer Dental Society, Fellow and Past-President of the Northeastern Gnathological Society, Fellow of the American and International Colleges of Dentists, and the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics. He is a member of the Academy of Osseointegration and former Treasurer of the American College of Prosthodontists Education Foundation. Dr. Hudis serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Prosthodontics. Dr. Hudis is a former Associate Clinical Professor at the New York University College of Dentistry in the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics. Currently, Dr. Hudis is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Department of Periodontics and Post-Graduate Prosthodontics, where he is also the Assistant Program Director for Post Graduate Prosthodontics. Dr. Hudis maintains a private prosthodontic practice in Princeton, New Jersey.

Dr. Wendy S. Hupp (AAOM)

Dr. Wendy S. Hupp is a 1984 graduate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia.  After six years of general dentistry practice, she joined the U.S. Navy Dental Corps.  She received a Certificate in Oral Medicine from the National Naval Dental Center, Bethesda, Maryland in 1997.  In 2000, Dr. Hupp became the first Oral Medicine specialist at the new dental school at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  In 2007, she moved to the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in Louisville, Kentucky where she earned tenure and was the department chair of General Dentistry and Oral Medicine. Dr. Hupp helped start a nurse practitioner medical practice within the School of Dentistry. She helped create an interprofessional training program with the School of Nursing and other disciplines to raise the healthcare access and quality in rural Kentucky.  She retired in 2018 but continues to lecture, consult, and mentor dental students and dentists in all stages of dental practice and academic careers.   Dr. Hupp is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine, and is a past president of the American Academy of Oral Medicine.

Dr. Rujuta Katkar

Dr. Rujuta Katkar (AAOMR)

Dr. Rujuta Katkar completed her advanced training with a Master’s degree in Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2011. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology. Currently she is an Associate Professor and Clinic Director for Graduate Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology clinic at the University of Texas Health San Antonio, School of Dentistry. Prior to joining the University of Texas, she worked at the University of Florida College of Dentistry as the Division Director of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology. Dr. Katkar is actively involved in predoctoral and postdoctoral education, has numerous presentations and publications at national and international conferences and peer reviewed journals and books. Dr. Katkar has served as a Secretary, Vice-Chair and Chair of the OMR section at the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), Chair of Research & Technology Committee at the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology (AAOMR) and has served on the Executive Council of the AAOMR as the Councilor of Communications.

Dr. Frances M. Kim (AAPHD)

Dr. Frances Kim DDS, MPH, DrPH, is a Dental Public Health Consultant currently residing in North Carolina. She is a graduate Bryn Mawr College and received her dental degree from Baltimore College of Dental Surgery Dental School, University of Maryland.  After a one-year General Practice Residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, she received her Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Family and Community Health and Doctorate in Public Health in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health.  Dr. Kim completed a dental public health residency at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. As a dental public health consultant, she has been involved in various activities, in the private and public sector, been appointed as adjunct faculty in several schools providing instruction in public health as well as mentoring for dental public health residents and pre-doctoral students and been involved epidemiologic research and analysis.  She has also served as the executive director for the American Association of Public Health Dentistry. She is a Past President of the AAPHD and a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health.

Dr. Jeffrey Lodl

Dr. Jeffrey Lodl (ADA)

Dr. Jeffrey Lodl graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in 1986.  He then completed a one year General Practice Residency at Denver General Hospital in 1987.  He bought a private practice from a retiring dentist and has been in private dental practice ever since.  He joined the board of directors for the Metropolitan Denver Dental Society shortly thereafter and was President from 2004-2005.  He has been a delegate to the Colorado Dental Association for over 35 years and an alternate delegate and delegate to the ADA.  He joined Dental Lifeline Network Board of Directors in 2006 after starting as a volunteer in 1988.  He is the current President of Dental Lifeline Network for Colorado. He served as a Board Member for the Colorado Dental Association from 2018-2024 and was elected Vice President in 2024.  He chaired the Medicaid Task Force from 2023-2024 that helped gain significant reimbursement increases for Adult Medicaid Benefits in 2024.  He is a fellow of the International College of Dentists.

Dr. Julius N. Manz (ADA)

Dr. Manz graduated with honors from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine in 1998.  He has served as a Professor and Director of the dental hygiene program at San Juan College for the past 20 years and  was in private practice as a general dentist in Vermont for 6 years prior.  He is a Veteran of the United States Navy having served 10 years as a Naval Submarine Officer and Nuclear Engineer.  He has served the New Mexico Dental Association as President in 2014, as both a delegate and alternate delegate to the ADA house of delegates (2013-2022) and currently serves as the Secretary-Treasurer and Board member of the NMDA Foundation.  Dr. Manz has served as a clinical and local anesthesia examiner for national licensure examinations and currently serves as a site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation.  Dr. Manz is a spokesperson for the American Dental Association and is a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Dr. Michael Mashni

Dr. Michael Mashni (ASDA)

Dr. Michael Mashni is a Dentist Anesthesiologist in private practice in Southern California.  He received his dental degree from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry and completed his residency in dental anesthesiology at Loma Linda University Medical Center.  He has been a faculty member of the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry and the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California.  Dr. Mashni is a Past President of the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists and Tri-County Dental Society.  He is a founder and Past President of the American Board of Dental Specialties.   He has also served as an officer on the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and the California Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists.  Dr. Mashni is currently a member of the Board of Component Representatives to the California Dental Association.  Dr. Mashni is a member of the American College of Dentists and International College of Dentists. 

MurphyK
Dr. Kathleen Murphy

Dr. Kathleen Murphy (Public Member)

Dr. Kathleen Murphy has served for decades on various task forces and committees related to professional standards and professional ethics within different professional associations such as the National Association of Social Workers and the American Library Association. For the last decade, she has served on and managed the Social and Behavioral IRB for Northwestern University in addition to various committees at Northwestern University related to policy development, education and community engaged scholarship.

Dr. Ned Murphy graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry in  and retired from private practice in 2019. Dr. Murphy has served on the WDA Legislative Committee with two terms as WDA Trustee, WDA officer and finally WDA President.  Dr. Murphy is currently the Racine Component Secretary and volunteers at Racine Health Care Network. Dr. Murphy is a fellow in the ACD, Pierre Fauchard Academy and the ICD and is currently District 9 Vice Regent.

Dr. Richard Potter

Dr. Richard Potter (ADA)

Dr. Rich Potter is a general dentist practicing in San Antonio, Texas.  He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1996 from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio Dental School.  He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, and the San Antonio District Dental Society. Dr. Potter recently completed a three-year term on the TDA Board of Directors and is a Delegate for the 15th ADA District from Texas.  He has also served as a member of the TDA Council on Governance. Dr. Potter currently serves as Secretary on the Texas Mission of Mercy Board of Directors and chairs their Governance Committee. Dr. Potter is a Past President of SADDS and is currently Vice President of the SADDS Foundation.  He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, and Pierre Fauchard Academy.  

Radack
Dr. Stephen Radack

Dr. Stephen Radack (ADA)

Dr. Stephen Radack is a 1986 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and is a general dentist in private practice in Erie, PA. He is a past-president of the Pennsylvania Dental Association where he has also served as trustee, vice-president and treasurer. He is current the editor of the Pennsylvania Dental Journal. Dr. Radack previously served on the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (vice-chair), the ADA Committee on Annual Meetings and 14 years in the ADA House of Delegates. Dr. Radack has served on the faculty of the LECOM School of Dental Medicine and is a consultant dental examiner for CDCA-WREB. He is a fellow in both the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.

Dr. B.D. Tiner

Dr. B.D. Tiner (AAOMS)

Dr. B. D. Tiner, DDS, MD, FACS, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas College of Dentistry in San Antonio.  After graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1975, he completed a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas HSC in San Antonio in 1984. Following residency, he earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio in 1987.  Dr. Tiner retired in 2000 as a Captain from the United States Navy Dental Corps after a 25 year career.  From 1989-1996 he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas HSC in San Antonio.  In 1997 he began a 25 year career in the private practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with Alamo Maxillofacial Surgical Associates in San Antonio.  During his professional career, Dr. Tiner has been actively involved in organized dentistry. He has served as President of the Texas and Southwest Societies of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  More recently he served as the President of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and as President of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Tiner has served as a site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation, as a member of the OMS Resident Review Committee and as the OMS Commissioner for CODA.  He is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Douglas A. Wyckoff

Douglas A. Wyckoff (ADA)

Dr. Wyckoff graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1992.  He has been in private practice in Cameron, Missouri since that time.  He has been active in all levels of organized dentistry, serving as President of his local dental society, and the Missouri Dental Association in 2008.  He has served on the Committee on the New Dentist and the Council on Annual Sessions for the ADA in which he was the Continuing Education Chair in is final year. He has served as a Delegate for the ADA and Missouri Dental Association and is currently the Editor for the Missouri Dental Association.
